The funds raised through entry fees benefit the programs provided by LVEP, which include adult literacy and ESL tutoring for residents of Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties. Currently, volunteers are working to enhance the literacy of more than 150 local residents. Up to 60 teams of three to six people compete in four rounds of 25 questions each, working together to come up with as many correct answers as possible under topics like math, science, history, geography, music, arts and pop culture. The question sheets are distributed to each player at the tournament; however, the teams must consolidate their best answers and may turn in only one final answer sheet. Players can purchase snacks from The Ram's Den Fireside Bistro while they wait for the scores to be tallied. Prizes are awarded to the overall first, second and third finishers, as well as for best team performance in each round. The event will also feature doorprizes and raffles, donated by local businesses and individuals. LVEP is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization; entry fees are tax deductible. Brain Games may be the most fun - and certainly most competitive way - to support LVEP's unique mission. |
